A batch of 124 newly recruited constables earned their stripes after undergoing a grueling 44 weeks of basic training at the Central Reserve Police Force’s Recruit Training Centre in Avadi.
Deputy Inspector General of Police and Principal of RTC Avadi, Manoj Kumar Dubey, said that among the 124 recruits, the biggest representation was from Goa. “In this batch, 105 recruits from the Goa Police underwent basic training while the remaining recruits are from the CRPF,” he said.
The recruits underwent a rigorous physical training, foot and arms drill, handling and firing with different small and area weapons, explosives, counter insurgency operations besides human rights, first aid, disaster management, map reading and global positioning system.
“During the four weeks of jungle training, all the operational exercises are conducted by them under the guidance of instructors and officers. Demonstrations on all the operational exercises are shown to them to understand the nitty-gritty of operations,” he said. He also said that RTC had one of the best training facilities. These included eight-lane interactive fire arms training simulator (IFATS) through which these newly recruited constables had honed their skill of firing. They practised on the new and improved jungle lane to have a feel of firing in a jungle.
The institute has also been offering heli-slithering training for the past year in the wake of Operation Green Hunt launched in naxal-affected areas.
“Under this, the recruits are given exposure to slithering from the height of 30-40 metres. During emergency situations like disaster and jungle and urban based operations, this training will be very fruitful as most often, soldiers have to slither from the helicopter to conduct operations,” said Dubey.
Earlier, Dubey reviewed the passing out parade and urged the cadets to maintain a high standard of discipline, training and devotion to duty throughout their career and serve the nation and the force with honour and pride.
