A 10-year-old girl — who was injured when a Mercedez Benz of the Empee Group of Companies ran over her and a few others in Egmore — was shifted to Soundarapandian Bone and Joint Hospital and Research Institute from the Government Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital here on Wednesday. A 13-year-old boy, who was also injured in the accident, had succumbed on May 25.
The girl’s family said they were planning to sell their house allotted by the Slum Clearance Board in Kannagi Nagar to meet her treatment expenses.
Subarakshita (10), a Class V student of WPA Soundarapandian Nadar Higher Secondary School and daughter of Kumar, sustained five fractures in the right hand in the accident. She was admitted to Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Egmore along with Muniraj (13) and Vasu (7), who were also injured in the May 23 accident.
Subarakshita was subsequently moved to the GH, where she underwent a surgery to fix plates to reset her bones. She also had injuries in the base of her skull which was sutured up.
Speaking to Express, Kumar said he and his wife Manjula were not happy with the attention at the GH and were moving her to the private hospital for intensive care.
“Now, I have borrowed a few thousands from my relatives and neighbours in Ayanavaram. I also want to sell the house allotted to us in Kannagi Nagar,” he said.
“None from the government visited us and cops asked us to sign something which they claimed was crucial to arrest the accused. But we refused to sign it because they asked me to come alone, which is suspicious. We informed the cops that we will come with lawyers,” he said.
He also charged that no relief was provided to the kin of Muniraj, whose family was also poor.
The police were on the look out for Empee Group Chairman M P Purushothaman’s son Shaji Purushothaman, who was booked in this case.
