Express News Service

CHENNAI: Popular TV soap actor Murli Mohan (54), fondly remembered as ‘Horlicks Uncle’ due to the smile he  always sported, committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling of his Purasawalkam residence, on Thursday.

The actor who was home-alone on Wednesday night after his wife had gone out to attend a function in Tambaram, took the extreme step after opportunities dried up for him in the tinsel world.

When his wife, Sumathi, returned around 8 pm, he was not to be seen anywhere in their duplex residence. After checking with her relatives, she later found him hanging from the ceiling fan in the bedroom.

She alerted her relatives and the Vepery Police, who rushed to the spot and moved the body to Government Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital for post-mortem. Sumathi told the cops that her husband was upset as he could not make income in the past six months. “He had kept it to himself and did not attend the function”, sources close to the family told Express.

Murali Mohan has previously appeared in films including Boys and Allithantha Vanam.  He is survived by his wife and a son.
