Warm Send-off to Justice R S Ramanathan

CHENNAI: Madras High Court judge Justice RS Ramanathan retired on Monday. The bench and bar of the High Court accorded a warm send-off to him, moving the senior jurist to tears.

Hailing from Tirunelveli district, Justice Ramanathan was the second generation legal professional from his family. His father R V Sanakaranarayan practised in the courts in Tirunelveli, till the age of 84. Justice Ramanathan graduated from St John’s College, Palayamkottai, before completing pursuing a degree in Law at the Madras Law College. Starting his career in 1976, Ramanathan was appointed as additional judge at the Madras High Court in March 2009. Two years later, he was elevated as a permanent judge.

The farewell meeting was held on the High Court premises. The meeting was attended by Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Justice SK Kaul, fellow judges, senior lawyers and court staff among others.

With his retirement, the judges’ strength at the Madras High Court has gone down to 38.
