NEW DELHI: Four persons running a job racket, including two who impersonated Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers, have been arrested here, police said on Friday.
Police have also seized fake appointment letters, admit cards, stamps and other articles from the accused.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad identified the accused as Rawender Singh, 30, Ankit Singh, 29, Gyanendra Kumar, 25, all residents of Uttar Pradesh, and Ajit Pratap Singh, 31, of Delhi, adding Rawender Singh and Ankit Singh impersonated CBI officers.
The gang was busted after a complainant said that he was cheated by a group who took around Rs 3.5 lakh from him on the promise of a government job and the accused arrested from different parts of Delhi over the last week, police said.
Prasad said that Ankit Singh introduced himself as Sub-Inspector of CBI to police, when he was arrested and even produced an identity card.
These two accused impersonated a CBI officer while others played along to trap people who were looking for government jobs, she said, adding that till now, it seems that more than 50 persons have been cheated.
Ankit Singh was arrested first and his arrest led to the apprehension of the rest.
Police said that the accused charged anywhere between Rs 3.5 to 8 lakh from candidates depending on nature of the job being sought.
