HYDERABAD: Everyone knows him as `kalaha priyudu’ (one who enjoys himself by creating differences between two persons) but he is also considered to be the first journalist on earth. It is Sage Narada and his birthday was celebrated in the city on Sunday though not on a grand scale befitting any other mythological character of the Hindu pantheon.

Narada Jayanti was celebrated by the Samachara Bharathi and two veteran journalists were felicitated on the occasion.

Speakers at the function said that Sage Narada was portrayed as a comedian or a `kalaha priyudu’ in mythological films. But his role is considered that of a journalist and he is the first one to report things on earth, the speakers said.

``Narada used to do plain reporting and he did it without hurting anyone,’’ the speakers said. Present-day journalists should learn how to report things and with the best language from him, they added.

This is the first time that Sage Narada’s birthday was celebrated in the city and Samchara Bharathi proposes to introduce an award for the best journalist to be presented on this day from the next year.

Two veteran journalists, GS Varadachary and Kandrapa Ramachandra Rao,were felicitated by Samachara Bharathi on the occasion.
