Call to ensure safety in coal mining

“Safety should be given top priority in underground coal production methods. Coal-producing companies should develop innovative practices for safety and higher production of coal to meet the requirements of our nation” director-general of mines safety Rahul Guha said at the inaugural session of a workshop on blasting gallery method organised here on Thursday.

The workshop was organised by the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) under the aegis of the directorate-general of mines safety.

SCCL chairman and managing director Sutirtha Bhattacharya said that SCCL had acquired technical expertise in the field of underground mining and was in a position to find technical solutions to the challenges encountered in the field to enhance the production with safety.

Eight papers were presented and debated upon.
