Stray dogs made a meal of a one- year-old boy on Sunday night at Nagaram village in Keesara mandal in Rangareddy district. The incident came to light on Monday morning when the toddler’s parents woke up to find their son missing, and later to their shock found the boy dead with bite marks, 50 yards away from their house.

According to K Krishna Kishore, inspector, Keesara police station, the boy Venu was asleep with his parents in a thatched hut. He might have woken up and crawled out as the hut had no door, when the stray dogs attacked him, police said.

The father V Mahesh (25), is a watchman at a construction site, and mother V Shobha (24), is a labourer.

However, another police official said that the stray dogs could have also dragged the baby out, and that the dogs may have come from a far-off place, looking for food.

“Stray dogs attacking babies is not uncommon, as they have happened in the past as well,” he said.

A case has been registered under Section 174 of the CRPC.
