One more held in RTC online ticket fraud

The Cyber Crime team of Central Crime Station (CCS) on Friday arrested a 32-year-old flexi board worker involved in the RTC online ticket booking case. Police also seized an amount of Rs 40,000, two hard discs and documents related to RTC Online Ticket Booking from him.

The accused has been identified as A Rama Shiva, a flexi board worker, a resident of Ramanthapur hailing from Venkatapuram, Mulgu mandal of Warangal district.

DCP, CCS, LKV Ranga Rao said that the accused is a friend of the main accused P Hanumanth Rao, who was arrested previously in connection with the case. Shiva assisted Hanumanth in cancelling RTC tickets through various online ticket booking agents of RTC and wrongfully gained money causing losses to the APSRTC.

Based on the technical evidence, the Cyber Crime team arrested Hanumanth Rao on June 5 and recovered Rs 1.9 lakh in cash, two computers, and data cards. On a tip off, the Cyber Crime Police raided a house in Ramanthapur and apprehended the second accused Rama Shiva.

Hanumath Rao has 12 years experience in the RTC Online Ticket Booking and is thus well acquainted with online booking security lapses (depot clerks and agents) and easy passwords. The accused opened the Vijayanagaram Depot Clerk (DC) user ID and password and accessed the Cheepurpally agent gaining up to `8 lakh. Hanumanth Rao issued 107 tickets, he cancelled the same tickets at Hyderabad through different agents with the help of Rama Shiva. Meanwhile, RTC staff discovered the fraud and blocked the User ID and lodged a complaint with the CCS police.

Based on the complaint, police registered cases and took up investigation.
