US-based techie dupes city woman

Express News Service

The Banjara Hills police registered criminal cases against a 29-year-old US-based software professional for duping a 25-year-old techie in the pretext of marriage. The victim met the Non Resident Indian (NRI) techie on the social networking site Facebook and fell in love with him.

According to police sources, the NRI techie married the victim a few days ago and the newly-wed couple started staying together at Gourishankernagar, Road No. 12, Banjara Hills.

The accused identified as Veeramachineni Himateja, 29, a software professional in the US, and a native of  Vijayawada, started harassing his wife Polisetty Reshma, for additional dowry.

Reshma lodged a complaint with the police in which she stated that she fell in love with Himateja through Facebook and got married to him despite her parents’ repeated opposition to the alliance on April 22 at the Chirala sub-registrar’s office.

“After marriage, the newly-weds couple started living at Gourishankernagar, Banjara Hills.

A few days after marriage, Reshma found out to her horror that Himateja was already married to a Canada-based techie. On May 16, Himateja left for the US without informing Reshma”, police said.

Based on the complaint lodged by Reshma, Banjara Hills police registered cases under Section 498 (A) (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty)  and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and investigation is on.
