HYDERABAD: The TRS has bagged half of the 12 local bodies MLC seats even without a contest. The ruling party which won three seats on Friday unanimously, managed to get three more, with independents and opposition party candidates withdrawing from the fray in Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts on Saturday.
With six seats in TRS kitty, the remaining six will go for polls on December 27.
TRS has won one MLC seat each from Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, Medak and two seats from Karimnagar. Elections will be held for two each seats in Mahbubnagar and Rangareddy, while one seat each in Nalgonda and Khammam will go for polls. The ruling party in all likelihood will bag majority of these six seats and political leaders are of the view that only election for the Nalgonda MLC might be keenly contested. On Saturday, the lone independent candidate in fray from Nizamabad, G Jagadish, withdrew his nomination paving the way for Dr R Bhupathi Reddy of TRS to win.
In Karimnagar, the two TRS candidates Naradasu Laxman Rao and T Bhanu Prasad won unanimously after the two independents who were in fray till the last day withdrew their nominations.
Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal, who held a press meet after the withdrawal of nominations was over, announced the unanimous election of six candidates. “The election code of conduct will no more be there in the districts where the elections were unanimous,” he added.
The code will be in place in Rangareddy, Khammam, Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts. Meanwhile, Bhanwar Lal warned of serious action against those who resort to ‘camp politics.’
