HMWSSB to hold seminar on wastewater management in city

HYDERABAD:In connection with World Water Day celebrations on March 22, the Institution of Engineers (India) in association with Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and Indian Water Works Association will organise an one-day seminar on ‘’Innovative technologies for water and wastewater management’’ at Visvesvaraya Bhavan in Khairatabad on March 21.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, IEI chairperson, S Satyanarayana along with secretary G Rameshwar Rao said that the objective of the seminar is to provide a common platform for the experts on wastewater management, irrigation to exchange their ideas and provide constructive suggestions for submission to the authorities.

The seminar is divided into two technical sessions where experts will present papers during the seminar. HMWS&SB managing director M Dana Kishore will inaugurate seminar while municipal administration minister K T Rama Rao will be chief guest. Pointing out that wastewater is presently the crux of the problem across the world, Rameshwar Rao said that there is a need for innovative and alternative methods of wastewater treatment.

Conventional wastewater treatment technologies improve quality of waste water discharged into environment and restrain polluted water from contamination of available clean water resources. Latest technologies for water conservation in surface irrigation which consumes 80 per cent of available water is imminent need of the hour, he added.
