HYDERABAD: A criminal case was registered on Sunday by the Hyderabad police against makers of John Abraham-starrer Hindi movie Satyameva Jayate for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of the Shia community.
The issue was raised first in June when the first trailer of the movie was released. Then, a complaint was lodged with the Dabeerpura police station that the trailer, which had a scene where John Abraham kills a man in a Muharram procession, hurt their religious sentiments.
“Though in such cases, police are supposed to investigate and report within seven days of the complaint, no such action was taken by the Dabeerpura police,” Shia Companions Foundation member and BJP Minority Morcha general secretary Syed Ali Jaffry said. Later, the producers of the movie have released the video of a song, ‘Tajdar-e-Haram’, which stoked the embers. “The whole song has been filmed with the Muharram mataam as the backdrop. The video shows a person being killed. This has hurt our religious sentiments,” Jaffry said.
On Sunday, a delegation led by advocate Syed Jaffer Nadeem and Waqf Board member Syed Nisar Hussain Hyder Agha Qibla, and comprising 100 Shia Muslims, marched from Alawa e Sartouq to the office of DCP (south zone) V Satyanarayana, demanding action against them.
Basing on the complaints, Dabeerpura police registered a case against Emmy Entertainments and director Milap Milan Zaveri under Section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion), Section 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class),. “We will probe whether the mentioned scenes have indeed hurt the sentiments,” the DCP
