KOCHI: A DYFI activist was killed and four were injured in a goonda attack at Thathappilly near North Paravur on Saturday night. Ratheesh who had been admitted to the Medical Trust hospital in Kochi succumbed to the injuries on Sunday morning.

There was a clash between the goonda team and the slain Ratheesh (21), son of Olipparambil Raveendran of Thathappilly, two months ago. It was in a retaliatory attack he was killed, police said.

Jineesh alias Jinathi who is involved in various criminal cases, Rajesh and four others attacked Ratheesh and four others at around 10 pm at Thathappilly, police said.

“Both Jineesh and Ratheesh were friends before the clash between them two months ago,” police said. The North Paravur police have registered a case. Arun Kumar, Anoop and Sumod who were injured in the attack were admitted to Medical Trust hospital.

DYFI condemns attack

The DYFI district secretariat has condemned the incident. C R Ratheesh (21) who was allegedly killed by drug goonda mafia was a former member of the DYFI Thathapalli and Athani unit. “The mafia was agitated at the DYFI members for bringing out the story of drug usage and distribution at Athanni in Pravoor. Sumod and V A Anoop Kumar who were also seriously injured are currently undergoing medical treatment,” said DYFI district secretary C B Devadarshan in a press release.
