Moolampilly evictees march to polling booth

The evictees marched to the booth to caution the political fronts that gimmicks during campaign had not affected them.

KOCHI: Voters belonging to the 22 families, which were displaced at Moolampilly Island for the fourlane highway that connects the Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal to Kalamassery, exercised their franchise at Moolampilly St Joseph's LP School on Wednesday. The evictees, who have not been provided with the compensation package offered to them, marched to the polling booth as a mark of protest.

"We marched to the booth to caution the political fronts that gimmicks during campaign have not affected these families. Besides, we also wanted to reply the baseless rumour spread by certain people that Moolampilly residents would boycott the election," Francis Kalathunkal, coordination committee convenor, said.

Those who took part in the march led by Selestin Master and Mary Agnes Antony, also carried placards and banners.

The coordination committee leaders said agitation would continue if the candidates do not fulfil the promises given to the evictees during campaign.
