KOCHI: Rear Admiral G Ashok Kumar has taken over as the Flag Officer Sea Training in Kochi. The Flag Officer Sea Training is the authority responsible for inspecting and certifying combat readiness of all warships of the Indian Navy.

Admiral Ashok Kumar of Ponnani, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in July 1982. A specialist in navigation and direction, the admiral is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy. He has attended the Army Higher Command Course at Mhow as well as the Expeditionary Operations Course at Quantico, Virginia, USA.

Rear Admiral Ashok Kumar’s sea tenures include among others the commands of INS Kulish, a missile corvette and INS Ranvir, a destroyer. The admiral has also served as the executive Officer of INS Brahmaputra. The admiral has held important shore tenures like Head, Naval Training at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Defence Advisor of India at Singapore and Chief Staff Officer (Operations) of the Western Naval Command.
