KOCHI: The Cochin Port Trust has acquired a new heavy duty reach stacker. Port Trust chairman Paul Antony commissioned the new equipment on  Saturday. The new stacker, having a capacity to lift 45 tonnes, was procured from Tractors India Ltd, Kolkata, at a cost of Rs 2.19 crore.It  will be used for handling containers in the container freight station, pre-stage area and de- stuffing area in the Ernakulam wharf of Cochin Port.Reach stackers are used for loading containers on to trailers and unloading them from the vehicle.

  “The port trust was in need of a stacker after the Dubai Port World shifted their operations to the   International Conta- iner Transshipment  Terminal. A stacker taken on rent was being used till now,” the port authorities said.
