KOCHI: This ‘Vishu,’ once again, cracker shops in the city are all set to enthral people of all age groups with their colourful spread of crackers including sparklers to bomb crackers. The Ernakulam district’s hub of cracker wholesale and retail shops Ernakulam Market and Paravoor town are already abuzz with the people purchasing crackers. “We started selling crackers ahead of Easter.

Already, people have been coming to pick their favourite crackers for Vishu celebrations.

We have all possible varieties of crackers to meet the demand of the people and are expecting the sale graph to go up,” said A Raffique, a cracker shop owner in the Ernakulam Market.

One of the cracker named ‘Chinese cracker’ has grabbed the spotlight this season.

“Although, it is nothing new, this season the cracker has arrived in different varieties like the ones that make less noise and burst throwing many colours.

Other cracker items include sparklers, fire pencil, rockets, flower pots and chakri,” he added.

Another cracker shop owner at Ernakulam Market Suresh claimed that people will get quality crackers this Vishu season.

“We are importing crackers from Sivakasi.

Every item will be a quality product,” Suresh said.

But he also noted that the cost of crackers has gone up this time.

“The price of the crackers has increased by 10 per cent compared to the last Vishu season.

However, the variety of crackers will compensate the increase as people can choose crackers according their budget,” Suresh added.

A shop owner at Paravoor said that they are also focusing on safety measures.

“People must not underestimate crackers made in Paravoor.

The crackers made here are also of good quality.

Also, the safety measures are written on the packets of the crackers.

People must understand that the instructions of safety are not only for children but are for anyone who handles crackers,” he said.
