'Manimaruthu' saplings planted along airport road

To mark the World Environment Day, officials of the Cochin International Airport on Wednesday planted ‘Manimaruthu’ saplings along both sides of the airport road.

To mark the World Environment Day, officials of the Cochin International Airport on Wednesday planted ‘Manimaruthu’ saplings along both sides of the airport road.

An airport official said it was part of the ‘green project’ undertaken by the airport.

Inaugurating the project, airport director A C K Nair and executive director A M Shabeer jointly planted saplings along both sides of the airport road.

Immigration Department PRO S K Nair also joined the plantation drive.

A passenger, who had arrived at the airport by a Qatar Airways flight, and a local were also invited.Shabeer said the airport intended to plant 1,000 saplings on the sides of the airport road once the road-widening work is over.

Saplings of flowering trees ‘gulmohar’, ‘kanikonna’ and ‘tabebuia’ will also be planted.
