Marking their protest against the decision of the authorities that Kochi metro rail will not be extended from Petta to Tripunithura in its first phase, CPM members formed a human chain called ‘human metro’ here on Thursday.
Hundreds of people linked arms to form the human chain from Petta to the Steel Authority’s Yard, Tripunithura. Former district panchayat president C V Ouseph formed the first link of the human metro at the yard and district secretariat member C K Manisankar became the last link at Petta. The public meeting held as part of the protest was inaugurated by CPM district secretary C M Dinesh Mani.
He said the extension of metro rail from Petta to Tripunithura will raise the economic viability of the project.
“The CPM has played a crucial role in bringing the project to the state. The UDF Government has tried to sabotage the project. They also tried to keep away the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and its principal adviser E Sreedharan from the project. However, the CPM organised several protests against the move and brought back the DMRC and E Sreedharan to the project,” he said.
“The metro can be extended to Tripunithura using the 12-acre land of the Steel Authority here. However, the state government has turned a blind eye towards the possibility,” he said. P Rajeeve MP, CPM members C N Sundharan, K K Mohanan and K T Thankappan were also present.
