'Edappally flyover work to begin in 4 months'

Express News Service

PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju has said that the work on the Edappally flyover will begin within four months. “The DMRC has informed us that the work on the bridge will be completed within one-and-a-half years,” the minister told mediapersons on Monday.

Asked why the government did not give preference to construct a flyover at Vyttila where traffic conjunction is severe than at Edappally, the minister said that Edappally was given due consideration as it was also pointed out by the High Court.

“The High Court, based on a petition, had demanded that a solution be found to the traffic issue at Edappally,” he said. He further said that the proposal for a flyover at Vytilla will be taken into consideration in the Cabinet meeting in two weeks’ time. On whether the Lulu Mall at Edappally was built on encroached land, he said that they have no proof for this.   The officials of the PWD said compared to the last two years, this time the PWD could spent three times more funds for developmental works. The department is aiming at completing all the works on time. It is also considering the possibility of entering other sectors.
