Police to approach High Court to lift stay order of accused

Express News Service

Kalamassery police will soon approach the Kerala High Court for lifting the stay order given to Balaji Chandrashekar from getting arrested in a case registered for cheating a leading textile firm in 2012. Balaji Chandrashekar is the absconding friend of actress Leena Maria Paul who was arrested by Chennai police in a cheating case the other day.

According to police officials, they had registered a case against Balaji for cheating a leading textile firm in April 2012. “But he received a stay order from the High Court from getting arrested. Even though we had given his details on his involvement in another cheating case in Bangalore, he managed to receive the stay order. We will soon give a petition before the High Court to cancel the stay order as he was involved in several criminal activites in other states. A report in this regard will be given to the Police Commissioner and on the basis of his direction, we will proceed further. Now we have no plan to coordinate with Chennai police as the stay order exists,” V K Sanal Kumar, Circle Inspector, Kalamassery, said.

Sekhar had collected Rs 20 lakh from the management of a leading textile showroom in the city by promising to get actor Katrina Kaif for a photo shoot and for a function in Kochi. The Kalamassery police had registered a case for cheating based on a complaint by the showroom director. Acting on a tip-off that he was in Goa, the police team that headed to the place were clueless of his whereabouts, police said. In the complaint, the textile shop owner had alleged that Sekhar had introduced himself as a relative of Union Minister Mallikarjun Kharge in a bid to win his trust.
