Theatre festival to begin on 14th

The four-day fest named ‘Nataka Ravukal’ will be held at Changampuzha Park, Edapally. The plays will be staged at 6.30 pm

A four-day theatre fest, ‘Nataka Ravukal’, organised by Keli, will begin on Monday at Changampuzha Park, Edapally. The fest, during which five plays would be staged, will be inaugurated by Zero Babu, veteran playback singer, at 5.30 pm.

     KPAC Beatrice, veteran theatre artist, will inaugurate the staging of ‘Nadinakam Natakam’, a play written and directed by Saheer Ali. The play depicts the story of a playwright who tries to script an all-male play, as he is unable to find a female actor. It touches on themes like extremism and employs devises like ‘play within a play’ and puppetry. The puppetry part will be handled by Ramachandra Pulavar, considered a master of the artform. The play will be staged at 6.45 pm on Monday.

S Ramachandran Nair, editor, Grandhalokam, will deliver the P J Antony memorial speech on Tuesday. This will be followed by the felicitation of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi award winners, 2013, viz. Nelson Fernandez, P M Abu and Edakochi Salim Kumar, by Kalamandalam Prabhakaran. Later, ‘Kanalkattu’, a play written and directed by Ashok Sasi, will be staged. Rajesh Sharma, the best actor award winner (drama), 2013, will deliver the N Somasundaran memorial speech on the same day.

Prof Chandradasan will felicitate the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi award winners Pattanam Rasheed, Cherunniyoor Jayaprasad and Varghese Vadassery on Wednesday. At 6.45 pm ‘Mazhavillu Pookunna Akasham’, a play directed by Vakkom Basheeer will be staged.

K Chandran Pillai will present the T E Nandakumar Memorial Award to theater artist A R Ratheeshan on Thursday, after delivering a speech commemorating T E Nandakumar.

Later, a one-act play, ‘Ekalavyan’, directed by Shaji Manayath and the play ‘Padmasree Ambatt Kesavan’, directed by Payyoli Murali, will be staged.
