Metro project brought under new acts

The Kochi metro rail project has come under the purview of the Metro Railway Act, 1978, and the Metro Railways Act, 2002. In a press release issued by the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd here, officials said till now the project, which was earlier under the Railways Act, will now come under the provisions of the above-mentioned Acts, just like in other states.

“The Ministry of Urban Development, after consultation with the Government of Kerala, has declared that the provisions of the Metro Railway Act, 1978, and the Metro Railways Act, 2002, shall extend to the metropolitan area of Kochi,” the press release stated.

According to KMRL spokesperson, now that the Kochi Metro project has been brought under the Acts, any issues which crop up with the metro project here will be dealt under these Acts.
