Kerala Medical Lab Owners on Warpath With State

Express News Service

KOCHI: The medical laboratory owners in the state are on warpath, alleging that the government is not paying heed to their just demands despite repeated complaints.

The Medical Laboratory Owners Association (MLOWA) has been demanding for long that the Paramedical Council Bill, which was promulgated as an ordinance five times since 1995, be passed in the Assembly to improve the quality and service provided at laboratories here. It had also urged the government to bring in necessary amendments to the Clinical Establishments Act by the Union Government to fit the needs of the state.

At a press conference here on Monday, C J Alias, president of MLOWA said that the association has long been demanding the formation of Paramedical Council to regulate the functioning of the labs here. Nearly one lakh employees, most of them women, are working in around 10,000 private laboratories in the state. Before Clinical Establishment Act is implemented in the state, it should be scrutinised by a body comprising of experts and other stakeholders.
