KOCHI: The hunger strike launched by the people’s collective under the banner of ‘Janakeeya Samiti’ demanding construction of seawall at Chellanam entered the second day on Tuesday.
Around 700 people who have been shifted to various relief camps following sea erosion due to cyclone Ockhi are participating in the protest.

Though food was prepared for the people staying in relief camps at St Mary's School, Chellanam, and GHS Puthenthodu, they refused to eat it and continued their stir.On Monday, the Janakeeya Samithi took out a protest march at Chellanam against the government's apathy in considering their demands. A conciliatory meeting convened under KV Thomas MP and District Collector Mohammed Y Safirulla had failed to arrive at a consensus.
