KOCHI: Abhimanyu’s dream project of enhancing the education prospects of his village got a shot in the arm when DYFI’s call seeking books for a library in his name received over 7,000 books on Tuesday. DYFI leaders expect the numbers to go up in the coming days.
On Tuesday, the ‘book vehicle’ launched by DYFI went around the district picking up the books collected by the various units and area committees of the DYFI. The library is being set up at Vattavada, Abhimanyu’s village.
According to A D Sujil, DYFI state committee member, the building for the library is being provided by Vattavada grama panchayat.
“The panchayat will also look after and monitor the functioning of the library,” he said. It is expected they will manage to collect up to 15,000 in the coming days, he added.
The ‘book vehicle’ was flagged off by P A Muhammed, the all-India president of the DYFI, at Thuravoor in Angamaly. V T Bhattathiripad Memorial Trust secretary K N Vishnu handed over the books to Muhammed at the inaugural function.
“After the inaugural function, the vehicle reached Kalady where the Sanskrit University vice chancellor Dharmaraj Attattil handed over the books to volunteers,” said DYFI district secretary K S Arunkumar.
The vehicle also collected books from the Kuttipuzha Krishnapillai Study Center, Paliyam Samara Kendram, Paravoor and Vypeen Sahodaran Ayyappan Smriti Mandapam. In the afternoon, it picked up books from Mattancherry, Kochi, the house of music director M K Arjunan at Palluruthy, Trippunithura and Mulanthuruthy.
After doing the round of Kochi, the vehicle went on towards Koothattukulam. After collecting books from the area, the vehicle ended its tour for Tuesday.
The vehicle will resume its journey again on Wednesday at 8 am from Muvattupuzha and end the endeavour at Changampuzha Memorial at Edappaly at 5 pm on the same day.
The closing function will be inaugurated by John Fernandez MLA. “The books were collected by DYFI volunteers from unit committees and individuals. The collection will be handed over to the Abhimanyu Maharajas Library at Vattavada,” said Arunkumar.
