KOCHI: Saneesh, the sixth accused in the Abhimanyu murder case, had supplied lethal weapons to the squad that killed the SFI leader, according to investigators. During the inquiry, the police team also found Saneesh had brandished a knife towards Abhimanyu during the clash on the college campus on June 30 night, which led to the murder. There is, however, no clarity on who had exactly stabbed Abhimanyu.

“Besides Saneesh, two others in the killer squad had also carried arms though who exactly stabbed the youth is yet to be established,” said in a report filed by the police before the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.

Besides the knife in his possession, Saneesh, an active worker of the Social Democratic Party of India’s trade union wing, had also brought with him a few wooden sticks and iron blocks. Saneesh, who was arrested from Angamaly on July 26, was produced before a magistrate on Friday and remanded.
The cops are now slated to produce Muhammad Rifa, state secretary of the Campus Front of India who was arrested from Bengaluru in this connection, before a magistrate soon.

The cops have identified the presence of youths from Nettoor, Palluruthy, and Aluva among the 15-member squad that killed Abhimanyu. A few among these are currently believed to have left the state. Meanwhile, the investigation team has moved a petition seeking custody of Fazzaluddin of Mattancherry, who is accused of aiding the killer gang to go into hiding. The police have so far arrested 15 persons in connection with the case including seven persons directly involved in the murder.
