KOCHI: Cheranalloor panchayat has been included in Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, a Central government programme which intends to develop three panchayats in every parliamentary constituency as model gram panchayats by 2019. It was following the direction of K V Thomas MP that Cheranalloor panchayat was included in the project, apart from Koduvally and Kunnukara grama panchayats from Ernakulam parliamentary constituency.
A preliminary discussion with panchayat members and officers of the various departments over the implementation of the project was chaired by Thomas on Wednesday. The MP said the panchayat can be turned into a model panchayat only through the proper implementation of various schemes launched by the Centre and state governments. There is already a system in place to monitor the implementation of Central government schemes.
With the participation of various private firms, Corporate Social Responsibility funds can be used for the project. He also urged the panchayat to make use of MGNREGS, Swachh Bharat scheme and Pradhan Manthri Awas Yojana.
