KOCHI: The police on Thursday issued a lookout notice against Cyriac George, the young doctor accused in the hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 19-year-old college student near Morning Star College in Angamaly on February 28.
Cyriac George, a native of Athirampuzha in Kottayam, was allegedly driving the car that hit Jasliya Johnson and fled the scene without stopping. Police have registered a case against him under non-bailable sections and have seized the vehicle involved in the accident.
According to the police, Cyriac’s classmate Akshay was also in the car at the time of the incident. Akshay appeared at the Angamaly Police Station on Wednesday and recorded his statement.
Angamaly Station House Officer said the police have confirmed the identity of the accused, and a team visited his house in Athirampuzha on Wednesday. However, the house was found locked.
Senior police officers said a special team has already been tasked with tracking down Cyriac George, who remains absconding.
The delay in arresting the accused and recording statements, even five days after the incident has drawn criticism from the public.
