THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Noted South Indian playback singer B Vasantha has been selected for the 13th Kamukara Award, instituted by the Kamukara Foundation.

Foundation president D Chandrasenan Nair and general secretary V Rajiv said the award carried a cash prize of Rs 25,000, citation and a sculpture, designed by Artist Namboothiri.

Jury comprising Perumpavoor G Ravindranath (chairman), Kamukara’s sister and noted vocalist Dr Leela Omcherry and Poovachal Khadar selected the awardee after considering the opinion of the public and some organisations.

B Vasantha, who had sung over 3000 songs in various South Indian languages and one Hindi film, had rendered music for some film songs. She had sung celebrated Malayalam songs like “Kudamullappovinum..., Nadikalil Sundari Yamuna...etc.

The award ceremony will be held here in November this year.
