THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Plaachimada anti-Coco-Cola Action Council and Plaachimada Samara Aikya Dardya Samthi had alleged that the LDF Government had turned pro- multinational and was inactive on the Plaachimada issue.

Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, Plaachimada Action Council chairman Vilayodi Venugopal said that Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, during his tenure as Opposition leader, had said that if the LDF came to power it would banish the Coco-Cola company from the State.   Though the LDF Government completed 1,000 days in power, it had done nothing to solve the Plaachimada issue. Venugopal said that the agitation against the Coco-Cola company had been going on for the past 2,500 days. It would be strengthened in the coming days in association with the socio-cultural organisations. The Action Council urged the Government to ensure that the case against the Cola company under the consideration of the Supreme Court  should not allowed to be defeated. Relying on the existing laws, action should be initiated against the company for exploitation of ground water.

He said that Coco-Cola company should be made to pay compensation to the people of Plaachimada under the Kerala Ground Water Act (2003).
