FORMER director of the Botanical Survey of India and chairman of Agro-biodiversity Task Force, M.P. Nayar, has been awarded the prestigious Panchanan Maheshwari Medal 2008 for his significant contribution in the field of taxonomy and conservation biology.

 M.P. Nayar was the director of the Botanical Survey of India and  ex-officio Botanical Adviser to the Government of India. Nayar, who took his PhD in taxonomy from the University of London, has 245 national and international research papers and 21 books to his credit.

 Currently, Nayar is the president of the Environmental Resources Research Centre, here in the city.
