THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KJ Yesudas has won the 5th Sree Chitra Tirunal National Award this year. Yesudas had been selected for his contribution to the field of music and society. The award which carries Rs 1 lakh and a citation, is instituted by the Sree Chitra Tirunal Trust.

The selection jury consisted of chairman K Jaykumar, Chalachithra Academy chairman K R Mohanan, P Satheesh Kumar, Rani Nair and R Ravindran Thambi. People who make valuable contributions in the realm of art, literature, science, technology, social service and politics are selected for the award.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will present the award to Yesudas at a date to be announced later.
