THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mathrubhumi managing director and writer M P Veerendrakumar has been selected for the Amrita Keerti Puraskar instituted by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, according to a statement issued by Math vice-chairman Swami Amritaswaroopananda Puri.

The award, comprising a cash prize of Rs 1,23,456, a statuette created by sculptor Namboodiri and a citation, will be presented to Veerendrakumar during the 58th birthday celebrations of Amma to be held at Amritapuri in Vallickavu, Kollam district.

The Amrita Keerti Puraskar is awarded to individuals who made outstanding contributions in the fields of spirituality, philosophy, science and literature.

The statement said that Veerendrakumar was bestowed with the Puraskar especially for his travelogue “Haimavatha Bhoovil.” According to the award committee, the book is more than just a travelogue of the author’s  pilgrimage from Ancient Indraprastha to the Himalayan peaks. “It contains a subtle philosophy replete with sacred truths and his personal spiritual musings,” the award committee observed.
