Vilappil: Stir to be intensified

Express News Service

The Janakeeya Samithi said on Thursday that it was planning to intensify the struggle against the move to reopen the Vilappilsala garbage treatment plant.  The decision was taken at a general body meeting of the samithi. No force can destroy the fighting spirit and the determination of the people of Vilappilsala. This has become evident in the pathetic failure of two attempts by the authorities to suppress the struggle with the aid of police in the name of following Court orders, Samithi president S Burhan said.

The Corporation should set up decentralised garbage treatment mechanisms in its limits instead of trying to bring Vilappilsala to its knees, he said. The Samithi was chalking out plans to step up the agitation to mark the first anniversary of the government’s announcement that the plant would be closed down.

The general body meeting elected S Burhan as the president, P S Raji, C Jnanadas, N Sadanandan and G R Subhash as vice-presidents, L Hariram as secretary, C P Madhuri, S Jayakumar, K Dastakeer and S Subhash as joint secretaries and Oliver David as treasurer.
