Major General Mathson to head Army division, Hyderabad

Major General Cherish Mathson will assume command of an Indian Army division based in Hyderabad on January 1.

He is an alumnus of the Sainik School, Kazhakoottam, and hails from Eraviperoor, Pathanamthitta.

Mathson was also a former station commander at Pangode, here.

He was commissioned into 7 Garhwal Rifles in June 1980.

He has served in the North-East and Kashmir with two tenures in Siachen, the highest battle field in the world.

The General commanded a battalion at the Line of Control during Operation Parakram.

He has also served abroad with the UN Peace Keeping Force in Somalia and at the National Defence College Course at Pretoria, South Africa.

Mathson is a recipient of the Sena Medal and Vishisht Sena Medal.

He is married to Mareena Mathson. The couple has a son, Gideon Mathson.
