KOTTAYAM: Popular cookery book writer Saramma Varghese, better known by her pen name B F Varghese, 95, died here on Friday night. Wife of the late B F Varghese, a planter, of  Panampunayil, Saramma Varghese had penned several cookery books, out of which ‘Paachakarani’, and ‘Recipes for all occasions’ are popular.

She had served the Red Cross Society in different positions since 1957. She was also the president of YWCA. The body will be kept at the residence at Kanjikuzhy from 10 am for the public to pay homage. The funeral will be held at the Jerusalem Mar Thoma church cemetery at 2 pm on Sunday.

She is survived by children George Varghese (MIDAS Rubber managing director), Benjamin Varghese, Anna Abraham (Mumbai) and Mary Isaac (Malaysia), and children-in-law Mariam Varghese, George Abraham and Dr Isaac Thomas. Her daughter Rebecca Varghese and son-in-law R T Varghese had pre-deceased her.
