Rs 7.5 crore for tackling spread of epidemics

A special Cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to sanction Rs 7.5 crore for tackling the spread of epidemics across the state.

The meeting also entrusted Chief Secretary E K Bharat Bhushan with the task of discussing the proposal for conducting ‘evening OPs’ in hospitals with the organisations in the sector.

A proposal to allow government doctors to practice privately as part of tackling the fever epidemic was discussed at the meeting, but the proposal was turned down.

Additionally, it was decided to call an all-party meeting on the issue of waste disposal. The date will be finalised shortly.

The meeting also decided to sanction 500 litres of kerosene each to the District Medical Officers (DMO) so that indoor space spraying can be undertaken in the districts as part of mosquito-control measures.

District Collectors will be issuing orders in this regard and the kerosene will be supplied by Supplyco. Health Minister V S Sivakumar, Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali were also present in the meeting.
