Express News Service

Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) chairman Justice J B Koshy has ordered a complete judicial investigation into the incident in which Museum police assaulted a visual-media journalist on Sunday.

He urged the government to take action to carry out investigation under the leadership of High Court former judge Justice N Krishnan Nair or any other retired High Court judge.

The State Human Rights Commission  will send the copies of the procedures to the Chief Secretary and the District Collector seeking explanation before July 10.

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission  pointed out that the police had assaulted the journalist, who tried to capture visuals of the police assaulting a private bus driver, and the journalists who had gathered at the station after they came to know about the incident.

Justice Koshy said that only regular steps were taken with regard to the incident.

In most of the cases that come before the  State Human Rights Commission, the plaintiff usually ends up becoming the accused, as the police reason that they were interrupted during their duty.

The journalists were assaulted in the presence of the SI.

It is difficult to apprehend the state of the common man, if this is what happens to journalists, he said.
