Government urged to intervene in HMT land sale

Express News Service

Former MLA Joseph M Puthusserry on Monday urged the government to immediately intervene in the move to sell the land of HMT Ltd, which was proposed to set up the Cyber City. An advertisement to sell 70 acres of land had already appeared in newspapers.

When the Blue Star Realtors bought the land during the last LDF rule, there were apprehensions about the project. There was suspicion over a real estate company buying the land for IT purposes, he said.

This was brought to the notice of the Assembly several times earlier, and now it has been decided to sell the land. Legally, the land could be used only for industrial purposes as it is an Industrial Layout Land, Puthusserry said.

He urged Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to stop the move to sell the land. He also urged the government to take action against all those who bought the land in the pretext of industrial purposes and then sold it at higher prices.
