SHRC directive

Express News Service

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has ordered the State Cooperative Bank to repair the lift in its building at Over Bridge Junction here. The order comes on a petition filed by a woman employee of the bank who is a cancer patient. The Commission said it was mandatory for buildings with more than three levels to offer lift facility. The government is responsible for setting up the facility in its buildings, the panel said.

The bank authorities argued that the lift could not be repaired as several offices in the building were given on rent for nominal charges and another one had defaulted payment. However, the Commission rejected the argument.
