Tree falls; six SAP personnel injured

Six police personnel of the band team of the Special Armed Police (SAP) got injured after a huge tamarind tree fell on the team’s building at the SAP camp in Peroorkada here on Friday.  Sub-Inspectors Ebynesar, Vincent, Jose Roy, Vijayaraj and Samji Lawrence and Additional Sub-Inspector Sundaram, all aged between 50 and 55, are the injured. Civil police officer Sreejith also got injured while performing the rescue operation.

All the injured were admitted to the Medical College Hospital. While Vincent and Ebynesar are being kept under observation there, the others were discharged in the evening. The tree, approximately 100 years old, behind the building, fell around 10 am when the band was practising, Jaiker, Assistant Grade-2 of the band said. Fire and Rescue Services personnel later removed the fallen tree from the SAP premises. In a similar incident, a building of the boys ward of the Sree Chitra Poor Home here was partially destroyed after a softwood tree fell over it around 6.30 am. An accident was averted as there were no children in the building.
