Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will convene a meeting of writers and cultural activists on Tuesday to plan activities for the growth of Malayalam in the wake of the classical status honour.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will convene a meeting of writers and cultural activists on Tuesday to plan activities for the growth of Malayalam in the wake of the classical status honour.

“M T Vasudevan Nair, Sugathakumari, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, O N V Kurup and M Mukundan will attend the meeting,” according to an official statement here on Monday.  Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph said that the meet will devise plans to rejuvenate the language.

 The Minister said the govt was envisaging various programmes to create love for their mother tongue among young generation, to develop the language, to encourage Malayalam studies in the country and abroad and to effectively execute the govt decision to make Malayalam the first language.
