The police were on their toes after a series of hoax calls were made by a youth, raising threats to the Chief Minister’s office, International Airport, railway alert control room and the Medical College Hospital’s blood bank. The youth, identified as Vijeesh of Adumkad, Parasuvaikal, near Parassala, was arrested for making the hoax calls.
Vijeesh called the Chief Minister’s office by 4.30 pm and threatened to kill him. Meanwhile, he threatened to blast other installations using bombs. The security was beefed up in all locations. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and sniffer dogs were pressed into service at the Secretariat.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) became alert at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and the Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force did the same drill at the Central railway station.
The police, with the help of BSNL authorities, traced the number from which the calls were made and found out that the call originated from Parasuvackal near Parassala from the number registered in Vijeesh’s name. A team led by Neyyattinkara DySP Y R Rustum took him into custody and handed him over to the city police.
City Special Branch Assistant Commissioner D Vijayan said that according to Vijeesh, he wanted to defame his family as they disowned him after he got involved in a criminal case pertaining to cash misappropriation in a private firm where he worked. Vijeesh will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
