Balbhavan will be the best in country, says minister

Bringing the dreams of children to life, Minister for Cultural Affairs and Rural Development K C Joseph has laid the foundation stone for a children’s theatre at the Kerala State Jawahar Balbhavan here on Tuesday.

Inaugurating the function, the Minister said that the aim is to make this Balbhavan the best in the country. “When compared to other Balbhavans in the state, Thiruvananthapuram Balbhavan gets more attention from the government. There will not be any delay from the side of the government. The construction will be completed as soon as possible,” he said.

The theatre will be built with the funds promised by K Muraleedharan, MLA and chairperson of the Kerala State Jawahar Balbhavan, from the Special Development Fund for MLAs. A sum of Rs 2 crore has been set aside for the construction of the theatre-cum-auditorium.

Delivering the presidential address, Muraleedharan  said the theatre will have all the facilities.

Presenting the report, PWD Superintending Engineer T Maheshkumar promised that the construction of the theatre will be completed within ten months. The 8,468-square feet building will have a cellar along with the theatre. Once it is completed, children will have a space for film exhibition and drama performances.

The valedictory function of this year’s Jawahar Balbhavan vacation classes was also held. Around 2,000 students  participated in the 26 courses. The students of different courses performed at the function. An exhibition of the artworks of the students was also held at Balbhavan.
