Be on guard against fever, residents told

Express News Service

With the rainy around the corner, the District Medical Officer (DMO) has urged the public to be on guard against viral fever, malaria, chikungunya, dengue and rat fever (leptospirosis).

Avoid self-medication and seek medical assistance if fever remains unabated even after three days, the DMO said in a statement here on Tuesday. Fever with high temperature, headache, cough, throat ache and body pain should be treated with total rest for three days and by consuming large quantities of water.

Intense fever accompanied by intolerable headache, ache behind the eyes, tiredness and rashes on the body are symptoms of dengue, the DMO said.

The above symptoms accompanied by swelling in the arms and feet, intense pain in the joints and inability to bend the fingers are signs of chikungunya. Intense fever accompanied by muscle contraction, red eyes, headache, constipation and vomiting can be signs of rat fever, the release said.
