With the University of Kerala not publishing results of the fifth semester BA exams even six months after conducting it, students who want to apply to post-graduate courses in universities outside the state have been left in the lurch.
For applying to various PG courses, students have to furnish copies of marklists from semesters I to V. The fifth semester BA CBCSS exams were held from November 7-19, 2012.
“Six months have elapsed and the University has yet not published the results. This despite the University rules stating that results should be published within three months of the conduct of examinations. Due to the University’s irresponsibility, I have missed the deadline to apply to the MA programme in Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE), Pune,’’ a Kerala University BA student, who preferred not to disclose her name, said.
“Applications to most of the institutions outside the state need to be submitted in the first week of June along with marklists from semesters I to V. If the University continues to delay the result, many of us will be denied the chance of studying in prestigious central institutions,’’ she said.
Admitting that the publication of results has been delayed by over three months from the scheduled date, Controller of Examinations Dr K Madhukumar told ‘Express’ that this was mainly due to teachers not handing over the marklists to the University on time.
“For the first time, answer papers of BA semester exams were handed over to teachers in their respective colleges so that teaching hours, which are usually lost if teachers attend valuation camps, are saved. However, teachers insisted on getting the papers delivered at home, which was unacceptable to the University. This caused some delay,’’ Madhukumar said.
“Even after the deadline, teachers in some colleges have not yet handed over the marklists to the university. We have issued warning to such teachers to submit it at the earliest. However, the university will go ahead and publish the results in a few days with the available marklists,’’ Madhukumar said.
Regarding adding of grace marks for participating in NSS/NCC activities and sports, Madhukumar said, this will be done along with the marks of the sixth semester.
