Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS) founder K R Gouri has been chosen for this year’s Puthuppally Raghavan Award.

The award, instituted in the name of freedom fighter and Communist leader Puthuppally Raghavan by his family trust, carries a purse of Rs 25,000 and a statuette.

A panel comprising poet and cultural activist Puthussery Ramachandran, Keralasabdam editor Rajakrishnan and trust chairperson Sheela Rahulan selected the awardee.

Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan will present the award to K R Gouri at a function to be held on April 27, the death anniversary of Puthuppally Raghavan, at Puthuppally Memorial, Kayamkulam.

“Gouri Amma was chosen for the award considering the contributions she made as a minister, an MLA and a social worker,” Puthussery Ramachandran told a press meet here on Monday. It was recently that she parted ways with the UDF and joined the CPM-led LDF.
