Revoke Disbanding of Squads: KSTREA

Express News Service

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CITU-affiliated Kerala State Road Transport Employees Association (KSRTEA)  has urged the KSRTC District Transport Officer here to revoke the decision to disband the squads constituted to check unauthorised services by private bus operators and parallel service vehicles.

An unified squad, comprising members of KSRTC, police and Motor Vehicles Department officials was launched six months ago. The squad had detected 300 cases of unauthorised service in the city and had collected huge amount as fine from the erring operators.

KSRTEA alleged in a press note that the decision to disband the squad was taken in the wake of pressure from private bus operators. The employees’ association said that it had written to the Chairman and Managing Director of KSRTC, highlighting these issues.

“After the squads were disbanded, private bus operators put up posters praising the government and top KSRTC officials. An efficient mechanism which prevented unauthorised services and brought in additional revenue for KSRTC was rendered ineffective,” the press release alleged.
